We’ve all heard some variation of “don’t let history repeat itself”, warning us against falling into old habits. Fall 2016 is showing us that there are a quite a few exceptions to the occasion of history repeating itself. When it comes to fashion- history consistently repeats itself. It’s inevitable!

And the people who are so abrasive against history doing this recurring thing must gag on chokers being back in style. Chokers has got to be one of the most overdone trends. It lead as a sweeping pop-culture fashion trend for almost an entire decade and it’s been totally overdone by both our favorite childhood and adulthood celebs.

I am big on anything that can be dressed up and dressed down and chokers are definitely versatile enough to be worn with your favorite 6 inch heels or that pair of Air Max’s you’d pull out on errand day.

Long before they encircled the necks of goth girls in the 1990s or were made popular by the Princess of Wales in the late 1800s, chokers were donned by women in ancient civilizations, worn to protect what even back then they understood to be a very important part of the body, the neck.

They are a style that cuts across many cultures–African, Indian and Western among them–and class lines.
