PLUS-SIZE PRICE GOUGING
IS A SALE….REALLY A SALE?
It comes as no surprise, that plus-size clothes often run more expensive than straight-size clothes. It comes with the understanding that- because more fabric is used to produce larger sizes, the cost of the garment increases. That’s totally understandable. But what happens after the retail value depreciates? When the seasons transition and the sales are creeping…why is it that there is such a disparity in sales for plus-size clothes?
While shopping at Target Our Editorial Assistant, Marisa Poyser ran into something very interesting. Two identical skirts. Two different sizes. Both were on sale…But one almost $15 more.
@target Our #Editorial #Assistant @_andsoitgoes_ has a very important question: This is the same EXACT skirt, just a different size but there’s such a huge price difference. Why? And please don’t give me the whole “plus-size requires more fabric” crap. Over it. Give me a real reason. @targetstyle @target #target #plussize #plussizefashion #plussizeblogger #blog #thursday #plussizestyle
WE ASKED, MARISA HOW SHE FELT ABOUT TARGET PRICE GOUGING ON PLUS-SIZE CLOTHES SHE SAID…
Target has always been a place that had everything I needed at a reasonable price. For years, I have shopped Target. Most of my wardrobe has come from Target and I’ve always been content with that. It’s a quick alternative for descent semi-fashionable pieces. I’m happy to see just how much growth “the plus-size section” of target has seen especially with the addition of brands like Ava and Liv, that offer more stylish options but on the flip side to the long-comings…
When you see two identical skirts by the same brand that are on sale you don’t expect an almost $15 difference in sale price.
I glanced at the price tag and was shocked to see there was over a $10 difference in the price. I was immediately outraged by the price mark-up and snapped a picture. The whole experience upset me enough to ditch the skirt.
After the incident, we took to social media to share Marisa’s experience at Target. So many hauties had experienced this same thing and there was even one plus-size man who chimed in- agreeing he too suffers the same experience while shopping plus.
