CLASSIC COLORED LIPSTICKS VERSUS HYBRID HUES
HAUTIES GIVE THEIR TAKE ON TRADITIONAL VERSUS NON-TRADITIONAL LIPPIE COLORS…
Lipstick colors are becoming more and more diverse. There was a time when we had a variety of shades in traditional colors. Today we have hybrid hues that would only seem fit for editorials or theater which have actually become socially acceptable for day and nighttime wear.
We thought most women would prefer, classic lippie colors over the new age hybrid hues, so we asked some of our favorite hauties which do they prefer.
WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY
Plus model Suzette Michelle is the epitome of classically chic. Everything she does is cutting edge- modern, yet strikingly classic.
SUZETTE MICHELLE SAYS…
I don’t have a personal peeve against hybrid hues but I do believe that hybrid hues should be used for production purposes only- at video shoots, editorials, etc. But if you are pro-fashionable and can pull hybrid hues off everyday…then to each her own! I just don’t believe they should be worn everyday. If I am doing a shoot… I am all with it, but if not, I’ll personally pass on the hybrid hues and I would stick to my classic colors.
Burlesque dancer and plus model Stephanie Mallick is a self-proclaimed make up zen master! So we figured she would give us some deep insight on the debate of classic colors versus hybrid hues lippies.
STEPHANIE MALLICK SAYS….
I love Makeup! I call it my yoga because I can find myself zoning out in total relaxation playing with my makeup for hours and creating new looks. I like to experiment BUT deep down I think I am a classic color lip chick. I’ll never part from backing the classic sexy red lip, its a trend that can’t be touched!! I am usually switching between red lips, berry or nude shades. However, this Summer I have been getting down with lip tints in bright pinks and corals, but I think that has been the extent of my extreme lip shade choices so far. I do commend others for rocking the hybrid hues though, they look great! I haven’t been brave enough to rock a bright blue or purple lip, but I could definitely see myself going for it especially for a bold photo shoot. In NYC, anything goes you can rock the hybrid lip hues all day- any day. I love all the different colors, I think the white shade would be my least favorite because its so easy to wash people out with such a pale lip. Other than that, the vibrant colors are great especially for this time of year.
Our culture vulture friends over at A Tale of Two Biddies had very interesting views on classic colors versus hybrid hues.
EBONI MERRIMAN SAYS…
I prefer classic lip colors. My lips are too big for hybrid hues, I think I’d look too cartoonish and not chic. Generally, to each their own…but I say leave the bright colors home if you don’t work in a creative setting. Find colors that go well with your skin tone.
I don’t think hybrid hues are okay if you work in a corporate environment but I prefer hybrid hues for my lip color of choice. Classic colors have a tendency to make me look older. Lip Crime is one of my favorite brands!
Plus model Crystal Nicole seems like an all around girlie-girl. We’ve seen her in both classic colors and hybrid hues.
CRYSTAL NICOLE SAYS…
I do agree, there are certain circumstances that apply to wearing non-traditional lippies. I wouldn’t suggest showing up to a job interview, casting call, or a board meeting with a green, blue, or yellow lipstick on. But I do believe hybrid hues are totally okay for days/nights out on the town, editorial and video shoots. My personal preference would have to be classic color lippies. I don’t have any personal peeves against the non-traditional lipsticks, I happen to own a few myself :). Although I normally run to my classic colored lippies, there are times when I don’t want to be conservative and want to stand out!
